The city was founded in 1727 by King Sawai Jai Singh, after whom it is named. Khajuraho
Khajuraho SculpturesThe one-time capital of the Chandela Dynasty, Khajuraho is located in the state of Madhya Pradesh. It has been declared as a World Heritage Site. This small town of the 9th century is visited for its erotic temples redolent with explicit images and sculptures. Being in a state of oblivion for long, the temples of Khajuraho were discovered by the British engineer T.S.Burt. The temples have been classified into three groups – the eastern, the western and the southern; the largest of all is the western group of temples. Today, Khajuraho has come up with a number of shops, hotels and restaurants to invite and accommodate its visitors.
